FAQs

What is Emsella?

EMSella is a non-invasive medical device used for pelvic floor therapy. It utilizes electromagnetic technology to stimulate pelvic floor muscles, helping to improve bladder control and treat pelvic floor disorders.

How does EMSella work?

EMSella delivers electromagnetic pulses to the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to contract and relax. This stimulation strengthens the muscles over time, leading to improved bladder control and pelvic health.

What conditions can EMsella treat?

EMSella is commonly used to treat urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse, and other pelvic floor disorders.

Is EMsella safe?

Yes, EMSella is considered safe when used as directed by a qualified healthcare provider. It is a non-invasive procedure with minimal risks and side effects.

What should I expect during an EMSella session?

During an EMSella session, you will sit fully clothed on the EMSella chair. The device will emit electromagnetic pulses to stimulate your pelvic floor muscles. You may feel tingling or contractions in the pelvic area, but the treatment is generally comfortable.

How long does an EMSella session last?

An EMSella session typically lasts about 30 minutes.

How many EMSella sessions are typically recommended?

The recommended number of EMSella sessions varies depending on the individual's condition and treatment goals. However, most people benefit from a series of 6 sessions scheduled over 3 weeks.

What are the potential benefits of EMSella treatment?

The benefits of EMSella treatment may include:

For Females:

Postpartum Recovery:
EMSella can aid in postpartum pelvic floor rehabilitation, helping women regain strength and function after childbirth.

For Males:

Improved Bladder Control:
EMSella strengthens the pelvic floor muscles, which can help reduce urinary incontinence and overactive bladder symptoms.

Enhanced Sexual Function:
Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles may improve erectile function and overall sexual performance.

Prostate Health:
EMSella can be beneficial for men with prostate issues, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), by improving bladder function and reducing urinary symptoms.

Pelvic Health:
It can help alleviate symptoms of pelvic pain and discomfort in men, promoting overall pelvic health and well-being.

Is there any downtime or recovery period after an EMSella session?

No, there is no downtime or recovery period after an EMSella session. You can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Are there any side effects associated with EMSella therapy?

Side effects of EMSella therapy are rare but may include mild discomfort or temporary muscle soreness. These effects typically subside shortly after treatment

Does the treatment replace Kegel exercises or pelvic floor exercises?

A pelvic floor muscle contraction stimulated by the Emsella Chair is much more intense than a voluntary contraction that you could do when performing Kegel exercises. The Emsella chair gives thousands of supra-maximal pelvic muscle contractions in a 30-minute treatment. Therefore, Emsella Chair treatment is considered more effective.

Is EMSELLA covered by Medicare?

No, however this treatment for urinary incontinence is recognised by Australian Government and eligible patients can apply for the Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) to claim towards this treatment.
